The ABCs of interviewing

Author: Christina Pomoni

The interviewing process can be quite a challenge but it's the journalist's moral duty to remain detached and unbiased so as to remember that there is only one shot to get the story and the facts right. Choosing the right people to interview is the key that relates the facts with the people. A proper selection of the interviewees produces high quality stories because the right people provide the best information available.

In addition, researching the topic of the interview offers the opportunity to craft innovative questions that require pioneer answers. People who are experts in their field appreciate advanced journalistic analysis and offer their expertise to the journalist without questioning the motives.

Keeping accurate notes during the interview enables the development of a solid story that gets the facts. In contrast, without good notes, what was said may not be remembered and the content may not be created.

Without a doubt, interviewing is one of the main techniques to collect information and produce content for a story. Considering that the fundamental goal of journalism is to impact a broad audience with truthful, accurate and newsworthy writing, a winning interview would be one in which a remarkable story is written or a charming personality is discovered. To achieve this, journalists should expose a skeptical approach to what they are told so as to be able to make someone comfortable enough to open up and reward them with an excellent article that would satisfy the journalist, the interviewee and the public.

About the Author:

I work as a financial and investment advisor but my passion is writing, music and photography. Writing mostly about finance, business and music, being an amateur photographer and a professional dj, I am inspired from life. Being a strong advocate of simplicity in life, I love my family, my partner and all the people that have stood by me with or without knowing. And I hope that someday, human nature will cease to be greedy and demanding realizing that the more we have the more we want and the more we satisfy our needs the more needs we create. And this is so needless after all.
