Critical Knowledge:

  • Refreshed exterior for 2009

  • New front and rear sheetmetal

  • New Sport Edition and Sport V6

  • Four-cylinder or V-6 engine

  • DE trim level dropped, leaving four choices

Mitsubishi revamped its midsize Galant sedan for the 2007 model year. Wearing

a fresh look for 2009, the Galant gains new front and rear sheetmetal and gets a modified lineup. Made in the United States, the front-wheel-drive Galant competes against the major midsize sedans: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. A new 4-cylinder Sport Edition joins the 2009 lineup, along with a Sport V6. At the same time, Mitsubishi is abandoning the bottom-rung DE trim level. Last year, the Galant lineup slimmed down as well, losing the prior SE and GTS versions. Galants are produced in Normal, IL, along with Mitsubishi's Eclipse and Endeavor models. Sales of the 2009 Galant begin in February 2008.

Model Lineup
Four Galant models are offered for the 2009 model year: base-level ES, new Sport Edition, Sport V6, and sport-focused Ralliart. In addition to special styling cues, Mitsubishi's Ralliart models get special suspension tuning for a tighter feel on the road, the company says.
